Enjoy the brand of contemporary Americana played by bands like the Avett Brothers, Of Monsters & Men, and Mumford and Sons? Then you won't want to miss Matt Jones and the Bobs, southwestern Virginia's answer to the current roots rock revival.
Pioneers of the emerging jamband scene in the early 90s, Conehead Buddha is back and better than ever. Built on a foundation of solid funk, these masters of improv also flirt with ska, reggae, and salsa influences. If you're a fan of the current jam scene, don't miss this chance to spend a night with true architects of its sound.
Don't call him a rapper! Bomani Armah is a poet with hip-hop style, taking lyrical cues from the likes of Langston Hughes and layering his music with gospel, funk, and go-go influences.
Born of a love for the classic funk performed by the likes of the Meters and James Brown, DC's own Backbeat Underground has also been influenced by the more modern grooves of Soulive, Lettuce, and the New Mastersounds. Make sure to arrive on time to catch House of Soul's opening set of DJ/Live instrumentation fusion.
